All of Franco regime victims will probably never be identified, archaeologists say

Video. Archaeologists examine Franco-era mass graves for possible identifications

Updated:

Archaeologists in Spain say many victims of the Franco regime may never be identified, as mass graves continue to surface decades after the dictatorship ended.

More than fifty years after the end of the Franco dictatorship, Spain continues to investigate mass graves linked to the civil war and subsequent repression.

At a site in Córdoba, archaeologists are examining human remains along with personal items that may help confirm identities through DNA.

Yet experts note that, due to limited records and decades of deterioration, many victims may never be conclusively identified, leaving families still searching for answers.
