Colombia has recovered the first artifacts from the 1708 wreck of the San José, a ship believed to hold billions in gold, silver and emeralds.
The Ministry of Cultures said a cannon, three coins and a porcelain cup were lifted from nearly 600 meters deep as part of a scientific mission to study the wreck, not retrieve treasure.
The vessel, sunk after an attack by an English fleet, remains the subject of legal disputes between Colombia, Spain and US investors over ownership rights.
