Video. Tensions boil over in California as immigration raids spark unrest

Updated:

More than 1,000 protesters clashed with National Guard troops in Los Angeles on Sunday as tensions rose following sweeping immigration raids across California.

The confrontations came after US President Donald Trump ordered intensified ICE operations and deployed hundreds of National Guard troops, sparking anger across major cities.

In Los Angeles alone, 27 people were arrested, with LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell condemning the violence, which included Molotov cocktails and rocks thrown at officers.

By Monday, scenes of burning cars and blocked freeways gripped the city, as federal forces used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse crowds.
