Medical staff and administrative workers at Garrahan Hospital, a leading paediatric centre in Buenos Aires, staged a protest to demand urgent salary increases from President Javier Milei’s government.

The demonstration, held on Monday, follows rising unrest in the country’s public health sector, with a federal prosecutor now investigating the health minister over alleged arbitrary management of the cancer-specialist institution.

While resident doctors were promised a pay rise from €580 to €950, the proposed increase excludes over 90% of permanent staff.

Union leaders warn that the partial raise could deepen tensions and lead to further strikes. Nearly 200 employees have already resigned, citing worsening conditions and wages unable to meet basic costs under Milei’s sweeping austerity programme.
