Video. Elephant herd relocated to new 21-hectare enclosure at Werribee Zoo

A herd of nine Asian elephants has been relocated from Melbourne Zoo to Werribee Open Range Zoo, covering a distance of 36 kilometers over five days.

Transported in air-conditioned containers, the group of elephants comprises of six adults and three calves.

Lucy Truelson, Elephant Trail Project Officer at Werribee, highlighted the emotional significance of the move. The new 21-hectare enclosure, funded by the Victorian Government, cost €53 million.
