For three weeks, the Danish capital is aglow with creativity during the Copenhagen Light Festival, which runs until 23 February. Streets, squares, and buildings transform into a mesmerising display of light, even delighting morning commuters on their way to work.
This year, 50 new installations light up the city. Interactive highlights include Aura, which shifts colours based on visitors' emotions, and Love is a Light, featuring a playful trampoline. Another display visualises real-time sea winds in partnership with the Danish Meteorological Institute. A unique exhibition in a cemetery celebrates nature and happy memories.
Beyond the artistic installations, the festival offers Denmark’s largest light race, guided tours with dancing, and tastings of wine and beer amid the luminous displays.
Attracting more than 400,000 visitors annually despite the winter chill, the Copenhagen Light Festival ranks as Europe’s second-largest event of its kind, just behind Lyon’s Fête des Lumières, which draws up to 2 million attendees.
