The 80th anniversary of Auschwitz's liberation has been marked by a ceremony at the former Nazi death camp.

Around 1.1 million people, mainly Jews, were killed there by Nazi forces during WWII.

At the ceremony, Polish President Andrzej Duda emphasized the importance of remembering the Holocaust to prevent future atrocities.

Auschwitz, established in 1940, became a site of mass extermination. It was liberated on January 27, 1945, by Soviet forces. World leaders also attended the event.
