In separate ceremonies held on different days, Donald Trump and Joe Biden paid tribute to former President Jimmy Carter, honouring the legacy of the United States' 39th leader.

On Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump, alongside his wife, Melania, honoured the late President Jimmy Carter, whose body lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda ahead of his funeral. The visit marked Trump's first return to the US Capitol since his departure from office four years ago.

The following day, President Joe Biden also paid his respects to the 39th president. Biden was the first sitting senator to endorse Carter’s presidential campaign in 1976.

Reflecting on their connection, Biden said, "Jimmy Carter's friendship taught me, and his life taught me, that strength of character is more than the title or power we hold."

"I miss him," he added.
