Video. Rio kicks off 2025 carnival season with unofficial street parties

The 2025 carnival season began with unofficial streets parties in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, featuring 42 bands from 9am to 4pm - or until the last reveler leaves.

These spontaneous carnival celebrations, often led by groups of musician friends, offer an escape from daily struggles. The official carnival will begin in March, with pre-carnival festivities lasting two whole months.
