Updated:

Heavy rainfall in central and southern France has triggered the worst flooding the region has seen in 40 years.

Emergency operations were carried out in central and southern France as heavy rainfall caused the worst flooding in 40 years.

The fire brigade responded to around 2,300 rescue operations, while roads were cleared across affected areas. In regions like Ardèche and Lozère, up to 700 mm of rain fell in just 48 hours.

Although the red weather alert has been lifted, heavy rain warnings remain in place for south-west France.
