Updated:

A man was seen riding a buffalo on Copacabana beach late on Wednesday night, drawing fascinated passers-by.

Travelling from Minas Gerais to São Paulo, Rômulo Cavalcante, bufallo's owner, brought his fellow animal to the beach to fulfil his dream of seeing the ocean.

Despite his initial apprehension towards the waves, the buffalo named "Diferentão" (Different One) eventually embraced the ocean and enjoyed a refreshing dip.

The four-year-old, one-tonne buffalo is renowned for his love of water. Buffaloes, native to marshy and flooded regions, are naturally well-adapted to living in and around water.

Crowds gathered to witness the spectacle before Rio de Janeiro’s Public Order Department escorted the duo away for safety.

Cavalcante’s buffalo, used to human affection, remained calm despite the attention.
