The migrants jumped off the train as soon as the train stopped. They first threw their belongings and descended from the top of the train, where deadly falls or mutilation of limbs were commonplace.

They then attempt to cross the Rio Bravo in the hope of turning themselves into US authorities. 

"We are really happy because we are just one step away from achieving our dream," said one Venezuelan as he approached the river.
