Video. Flags replace people on National Mall for Biden's inauguration

Updated:

In normal times, people pack out the National Mall to watch the presidential inauguration. Amid the COVID pandemic, flags are taking centre stage.

Workers help install hundreds of thousands of US and state flags on the grounds of the National Mall in Washington DC, where visitors arriving from around the country would normally stand and watch the presidential inauguration.

Joe Biden's swearing-in ceremony is due to happen on Wednesday, but this time around, the Mall is closed to the general public due to the pandemic and security concerns.
