Eyewitness images show the destruction and fear as the Latin American country was hit by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake.

Social media footage of the moment Mexico was struck by the 7.1 earthquake that killed over 200 people has emerged.

The images, uploaded by those in the middle of the tremor, shows buildings collapsing, glass shattering, and lighting swaying as the country was rocked by the seismic shift.

The quake killed at least 225 people and caused major damage across central Mexico.

Desperate searches for survivors under the rubble are continuing.
