Nigeria Muslims pray for peace as Ramadan holy month ends

<p>Muslims in Nigeria celebrated the Eid-al-Fitr religious holiday on Sunday at the end of Islam’s holy month of Ramadan.</p> <p>As at the start of Ramadan, during which believers abstain from eating and drinking during daylight hours, Eid-al-Fitr depends on the sighting of the moon and its celebration varies in different countries.</p> <p>Worshippers gathered in Lagos to pray for peace and unity.</p> <p>It comes amid rising tensions between different ethnic groups in parts of Nigeria, that hark back to the country’s Biafra civil war.</p> <p>Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation of 180 million inhabitants, combines a predominantly Christian south and mainly Sunni Muslim north.</p>
