Locals and tourists braved below freezing temperatures to take part in South Korea’s Sancheoneo ice fishing festival on Saturday (January 14).

The event has already attracted more than 100,000 visitors, who gathered around the frozen water to enjoy or watch the activities, according to the organisers.

The winter festival is named after a species of mountain trout native to Korea that lives in the surrounding lakes and creeks.

Visitors can try and catch the trout, which can only live in water with temperatures below 20C (68F).
