A quake struck Pizzone, in the province of Isernia, shortly after midnight between Friday and Saturday. Many residents rushed outside; the mayor says there were no injuries or damage to buildings.
A magnitude 4.1 earthquake was recorded just after midnight early Saturday by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).

The epicentre was in Pizzone, in the province of Isernia (Molise), at a depth of around 10 kilometres.
The earthquake was felt across the province and also in Chieti, L’Aquila and Caserta. Many people took to the streets out of fear. A second tremor, with a magnitude of 2.2, was recorded in the same area at 3:41 am, at a depth of 9 kilometres. The province of Isernia had already been affected by two 2.5-magnitude tremors last January.
No injuries or damage have been reported so far. "I am in constant contact with the regional Civil Protection. Fortunately, from an initial and important inspection, no damage to people or property has been found. People stayed out in the streets until late, mainly because of the state of anxiety that developed," said the mayor of Pizzone, Vincenzo Di Cristofano, speaking to the local media (source in Italian).
