Video. Robinson: Europe doesn't 'care enough' about Congo's Ebola outbreak

Updated:

Mary Robinson, Ireland’s former president, has called on G20 countries to release the full €3 billion pledged to contain the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has claimed 5,000 lives in less than six months.

The outbreak is the second largest in history, with more than 10,000 cases reported. The virus is spreading at an unprecedented pace, Robinson warned, stressing the urgent need for resources, particularly to help trace contacts.

Robinson said the outbreak was not receiving enough attention, arguing that Europe does not "care enough" about the lives of "those who are invisible to us".

She warned that the situation "could be really serious", not only for African countries but also for Europe if the virus continues to spread at its current pace.
