The global broadcast of the Colombian singer's Madrid concert has become the most-watched live performance by a female artist on Amazon Music. The platform highlights the role of the Spanish capital as a bridge between Latin America and Europe.

The global broadcast of Shakira's concert in Madrid has become the most-watched live performance by a female artist on Amazon Music, according to Claire Imoucha, head of Amazon Music in Spain, speaking in an interview with 'RTVE'.

The broadcast allowed viewers to follow the show for free from different countries via Amazon Music, Prime Video and Twitch. The performance, held on 3 October, marked a milestone in the Colombian singer's career, as it was the first time one of her full concerts was streamed live worldwide.

The production, coordinated over several months between the artist's team, the promoter and Amazon Music, deployed some twenty cameras, drones and even a helicopter to bring the show to millions of viewers.

"Madrid has become the epicentre of Latin music, the bridge between Latin America and Europe," Imoucha said, defending the choice of the Spanish capital because of Shakira's prominence in the country and the scale of her music residency. The Amazon Music executive added that Latin and Spanish-language music already accounts for 65% of digital consumption in Spain, a share which, she said, continues to grow.

The performance is part of the Madrid residency of the "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour", linked to ES Latina, which has seen the singer give several concerts in the capital since September. The initiative adds to the presence of other major Latin artists in Madrid and strengthens the city's drive to host international-scale shows.

Amazon Music also has extensive experience with major music broadcasts: it has spent more than five years streaming the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona live to audiences around the world.
