Video. Floodwaters trap vehicles after sudden downpour in Mexico City

Updated:

Torrential rain on the evening of 2 June caused severe flooding in parts of Mexico City, leaving motorists stranded as emergency services carried out multiple rescues.

Firefighters, police, and civil protection teams responded to calls across the city after floodwaters overwhelmed streets and underpasses.

In one area near Concordia Bridge, water levels reached 1.5 metres, trapping drivers in their vehicles and motorcycles, according to local reports.

Several buildings also experienced flooding, but no injuries were reported.

Authorities had issued weather warnings earlier in the day, advising of persistent rain and hail in at least six of the city's municipalities.
