Efforts to exhume bodies from a mass grave in northern Gaza are ongoing, with 40 bodies retrieved early this week now set to be buried in official cemeteries.

Rescue teams in northern Gaza have begun exhuming bodies from a mass grave in northern Gaza, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

The remains were buried in a mass grave in Beit Lahia, due to the Israeli siege on the north of the enclave that was imposed at the time of their deaths.

On Tuesday, 40 bodies were recovered and will now be reburied in official cemeteries.

The war has claimed at least 48,440 lives, according to Gaza’s health ministry, while the Gaza government media office estimates the toll exceeds 61,000, saying thousands of people who were missing beneath rubble were presumed dead.
