The attacks came as Israel extended its military operations in the urban refugee camp into a second week.

When Israel was created in 1948 thousand of Palestinians who had lived there were forced from their homes. Some of them settled in a refugee camp in Jenin, where their families still live today.

After the ceasefire began in Gaza, the Israeli military began the operation, saying they were going after Iran-backed militant groups, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

On Saturday, five Palestinians were killed by Israeli airstrikes, the Palestinian Health Ministry reported.

Before Saturday, Palestinian officials said at least 18 Palestinians, including a two-year-old girl, had been killed in the refugee camp.

Israel invaded the West Bank in 1967 and has occupied it ever since.

Many Jewish settlements have been built there and under international law the occupation his regarded as illegal.
