Updated:

Spain’s royal couple returned to the area devastated by last month’s catastrophic flooding for the first time since being pelted with mud by angry survivors during their initial visit.

Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia returned to the flood-hit town of Chiva on Tuesday, weeks after their initial visit was met with anger from survivors who threw mud at them. This time, their reception was calmer, with handshakes and photo opportunities during their tour, accompanied by a government minister and Valencia's regional leader.

Three weeks later, recovery efforts are still ongoing as survivors begin to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the tragedy.
