US President Joe Biden is set to visit Germany on Friday according to German government sources.

Spiegel magazine reported that preparations for the meetings are already well underway.

Biden had postponed the trip due on 8 October and remained in Washington, DC to monitor Hurricane Milton's impact on Florida.

Spiegel reports that meetings with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier are on the agenda for next Friday.

Biden had been expected to arrive in Berlin on 10 October evening for the meeting and had been scheduled to host a summit on the war in Ukraine at the US Ramstein airbase.

The cancellation of the trip meant the Ramstein meeting was also cancelled, which would have discussed possible new aid commitments to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Biden on Sunday will survey the devastation inflicted on Florida's Gulf Coast by Hurricane Milton as he urges Congress to approve additional emergency disaster funding.

Vice President Kamala Harris will spend a second day in North Carolina, hard-hit by Hurricane Helene, to attend a Black church and hold a campaign rally.
