PARIS (Reuters) – Olympique Lyonnais coach Bruno Genesio will leave the Ligue 1 club at the end of the season, he said on Saturday.
“For a while now I have been facing a negative climate towards me, which has become negative for the players (and) the club,” Genesio, who was appointed in 2015 and has failed to bring any trophies to Lyon, told a news conference.
“I’ve had a very long talk with the president this morning to announce to him that I would not continue next season.
“I told the players this morning,” Genesio added. “Now we have to stick together to take the club to the Champions League.” OL lost their third game in a row in all competitions when they were beaten 2-1 at Nantes on Friday, after another Ligue 1 loss to Dijon and a French Cup semi-final defeat against Stade Rennes last week. Lyon, who were knocked out of the Champions League last 16 by Barcelona, are third in Ligue 1 — the last qualifying spot for next year — with six games left.
