'A hard Brexit must be avoided'.

The EU would "consider seriously" any request from the UK government and parliament to extend Brexit negotiations because avoiding a No Deal scenario is the "key priority," Germany's economy minister said.

Peter Altmaier, whose portfolio covers economic affairs and energy, told journalists at Davos that the UK leaving the EU without an agreement would "damage the vital interests of the British people" but also the "economy in wider Europe."

"No Deal Brexit must be avoided. This is the priority, the key priority," he said.
