Although demonstrations by the Gilets Jaunes (yellow vest) movement were on a significantly lower scale than in previous weeks, police across the country used tear gas to break up demonstrations.

In Lyon’s place Bellecour, a Euronews journalist witnessed police firing cannisters at a lose gathering of people, some of whom were wearing the yellow high visibility jackets that are the symbol of the movement.

The reporter said he had not seen the demonstrators acting violently or threating police or property.
