The world's largest touring performance of Swan Lake is gracing the stage of Berlin's Theater at Potsdamer Platz until December 16. In the Shanghai Ballet production of the Tchaikovsky classic, a total of 48 swans pirouette, arabesque and plie in unison, double the usual 24.
For British Choreographer Derek Deane, the extra numbers are a challenge: "We have to spend a lot of time on the musicality of the movement, and we also have to really work on the coordination between each dancer. So it's just about a matter of having enough time to be able to rehearse it properly and well enough for that amount - that body of people to work together."
After the Berlin run, the next stop is Vienna.
