The obscure sport of pole climbing took centre stage at the Ragley Estate in Warwickshire on Saturday.

Shropshire-based tree surgeon Dan Whelan managed a succesful defence of his World Championship title.

He scaled the 25-metre Douglas Fir tree in 11.3 seconds, two seconds off the world record.
