Northern Alabama pummeled by powerful storms

Updated:

Felled trees, stripped roofs and power cuts have been reported in parts of northern Alabama.

Severe storms have damaged buildings and felled trees in northern Alabama.

The Limestone County Sheriff's Office tweeted photos from Ardmore of houses with roofs missing and destroyed garages on Monday evening. Luckily, no injuries were reported in the storm.

The office also tweeted that downed trees and power lines were blocking roads along the Tennessee border. Alabama Power Co. reported some 15,000 homes and businesses were left without electricity.

In a statement, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said state resources were being sent to the worst-hit areas, including Jacksonville and Calhoun County.
