The suspect, a 19-year-old man, is still at large and has been described as “armed and dangerous."

Two people have been shot dead at Central Michigan University, while police are still hunting for the suspect.

Central Michigan University police confirmed the deaths of two people, whom they said were not students.

"Police believe the situation started from a domestic situation," the university said on Twitter.

In a statement, Central Michigan University said there were no additional injuries.

The campus remains on lockdown as police continue to hunt for the suspect.

University Police Lieutenant Larry Klaus identified the suspect as 19-year-old James Eric Davis Jr.

“Our campus is safe,” Klaus said at a news conference on Friday.“We’re calling it a family-type domestic issue at this point.”

The city of Mount Pleasant earlier said the suspect was considered "armed and dangerous."

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder said he was in "constant contact" with local police following the incident, as he thanked first responders for their "swift action."

The incident comes around two weeks after 17 students and staff were killed in a shooting at a Florida high school.
