Rescued sea turtle stunned by cold Texan coastal waters

Record number of cold-stunned turtles in Texas

Updated:

A new state record has been set for the number of cold-stunned sea turtles found along the coast of Texas, according to the US National Park Service.

After rescuing them volunteers have been measuring the green sea turtles who were at risk of dying in the cold waters.

Since early December, when the freezing weather set in, more than 2,500 turtles have been found floating around in the Padre Island National Seashore area in a hypothermic state.

And with no change in sea temperatures expected for the time being, that number is expected to grow.
