Despite a legal challenge by his opponent Roy Moore, Doug Jones' victory has been confirmed
Doug Jones, the Democrat who won the Senate election in the US state of Alabama, has had his victory confirmed by state officials despite a legal challenge by the campaign of his opponent Republican Roy Moore alleging voter fraud.
It filed a complaint late on Wednesday night to block Moore's loss from becoming official.
State officials said last week they had found no evidence of voter fraud in the Alabama Senate race.
Moore's campaign was derailed by accusations of sexual misconduct, but has denied wrongdoing.
He becomes the first Republican to lose a Senate race in Alabama in 25 years.
