British Prime Minister Theresa May today (November 2) appointed Gavin Williamson as defence minister.

In a statement, May’s spokesman said: “The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Rt Hon Gavin Williamson as Secretary of State for Defence.”

It comes as Michael Fallon resigned as defence minister, admitting that his behaviour towards women had in the past fallen short of the standards expected by the UK military.

Williamson was previously the British PM’s chief whip.
