The Spanish government’s priority is to restore “normality and legality” in Catalonia, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy told Parliament on Wednesday.

The aim of Article 155 is to “respect the law,” said the PM.

“We hope that the situation won’t last for very long and that elections will be called.”

The “exceptional application” of Article 155 also aims to avoid further economic damage of a Catalonian independence.

More than a thousand firms have moved their legal headquarters out of Catalonia to avoid the volatility of an independence bid according to the companies’ registry.
