At least 29 people were injured, including five seriously, when safety barriers collapsed at a top-flight football match in France on Saturday.

It happened at a Ligue 1 northern derby match as Amiens hosted Lille. Quarter of an hour in, the visitors scored, sparking celebrations among away fans.

But their happiness ended in horror, with dozens of Lille supporters falling on top of each other after the barrier at the Stade de la Licorne broke.

Scenes of chaos and confusion followed and the match was abandoned.

The local prosecutor said he had opened an investigation into the incident.
