First reports of the haze came from Birling Gap beach, between Eastbourne and Seaford, on Sunday (August 28). Around 150 people have since sought medical treatment for irritation of the eyes and throat, but no serious injuries have been reported.

Patients were initially given a full decontamination treatment, but this was later ruled unnecessary.
