Eight people have been wounded in a shooting in the southern French city of Avignon.

Eight people have been wounded in a shooting in the southern French city of Avignon.

Police say they suspect the incident to be a dispute between youths.

Two of the eight wounded were taken to hospital, according to a local resident.

The witness said a car had pulled up with four people inside. The two in the back seat got out and started shooting a targeted group. A local newspaper cited witnesses saying one of the two gunmen had their face covered.

Worshipers leaving a nearby mosque had not been the intended target.

#BREAKING Police say this was a fight between young people or gangs, not necessarily targeting the mosque/Muslims. https://t.co/4ew8mrj5ia
