Washington refuses to sign up to a G7 statement on climate change.

In another blow to discussions on global warming, the US has said it does not agree with its G7 colleagues on climate change and plans to fund sustainable development.

Washington said the decision not to sign up to the statement reflected its recent announcement to pull out of the Paris Climate Accord.

France reiterated its commitment to the deal.

“More than ever, the (Paris) accord remains the only legal framework for the climate negotiations. And, this accord and the objectives that were agreed upon in Paris – and here there is no shadow of a doubt – are irreversible.”

The US says it will, however, continue to engage with its international partners on the issue in a manner “consistent with its domestic priorities” of “preserving both a strong economy and a healthy environment.”
