Donald Trump did not tell James Comey to drop the FBI’s investigation into former national security advisor Michael Flynn.

That is the claim of Marc Kosowitz, the US president’s lawyer, who refuted a number of points made by former FBI chief Comey during testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday.

Kosowitz also denied Trump had said he needed Comey’s loyalty.

Kasowitz said: “The president never, in form or substance, directed or suggested that Mr Comey stop investigating anyone, including suggesting that Mr. Comey ‘let Flynn go’.”
