European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker has congratulated Emmanuel Macron on his victory.

Speaking in Berlin, he said: “Now French also have to move towards others. There is no high speed train moving towards Paris while we are going to pick up everything that the French leadership has defined as a matter of their own.” (as it’s own priority).

Donald Tusk, the European Council president, also weighed in.

He wrote that “France will continue to contribute constructively in solve our common challenges” with Macron as president.

“France is essential for Europe,” he added.
