Gonzalo Higuain scored two all important away goals to give Juventus a big advantage going into the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Monaco.

Chances for Kylian Mbappe and Radamel Falcao could have put smiles on the home crowd’s face but for some fine goalkeeping from Gianluigi Buffon, who kept the Italian side’s clean-sheet in tact.

In the end, it wasn’t Monaco’s night.

Before the game they had scored in all but one of their Champions League fixtures this season.

After the halftime break, they barely managed a shot on target, with Juventus dominating much of the attacking play.

After a shaky start for Higuain, who had two early chances to open the scoring but stumbled both times and failed to convert, the Argentinian forward made the most of two swift counter attack.

Former Barcelona man Dani Alves played him in for both goals after linking up with Paolo Dybala in midfield getting on the end of two well placed passes from former Barcelona man Dani Alves.

Only Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo has a better assist record in the Champions League than the Brazilian.

Juventus fans may feel confident enough to begin making their travel plans for the Champions League Final in Cardiff on June 3.
