Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have sacked coach Roger Schmidt a day after his side suffered their third straight defeat and fourth loss in the last six league games.

Leverkusen were thrashed 6-2 by Borussia Dortmund on Saturday which has left the club ninth in the German topflight 24 pints behind leaders Bayern Munich.

The club now risk losing out on European action next season.

They are still in this term’s Champions Legaue but are straring down the barrel of a last 16 exit having lost their first leg 4-2 at home to Atletico Madrid.

49-year-old Schmidt had been at the club since June 2014.

Leverkusen have yet t name a full time replacement.
