Kim Faura, Director of Telefonica on transformation to digital and Internet of Things

“Telefonica has to go through transformation, because some years ago, apart from being the monopoly in Spain, we were a company, that was almost a utility, there was gas, light, electricity… When our earnings, that came from minutes of voice, are falling, people are not ready to pay for voice anymore. When SMS, that where short messages, also are replaced by products like whatsapp, Telefonica has to evolve to other type of products. So in the business world, we are dedicating to themes related to the IoT, that is the Internet of Things, and amongst those, smart city that is our theme today, but also e-health, also security, big data for example. With this, we also can say to the city who wants it, and we have done it with Barcelona, we have done it with Sevilla, we have done it here in Valencia, how many people are moving, what nationality they are, where they go… this is very important. For a better design of the traffic, if you know how people are moving, I mean, the colored stains that we get from the people, how they move throughout the day, you can design a much better traffic for the city.”
