An order of Benedictine nuns in Belgium have launched their own YouTube channel.

The digitally devout sisters at Loppem in West Flanders have proved to be a hit alongside the videos of teen bloggers, pop stars and quirky cats.

And, like all broadcasters, the nuns know their audience.

“People don’t read books anymore, they watch videos,” said Sister Hannah. “And they can’t be too long, either. That’s why we made eight shorter videos instead of one long one.”

“It’s a modern kind of missionary work,” explains Sister Rafa. “We don’t go to Africa or China anymore, so this is a great way to reach out.”

The videos show what life is like behind the walls of the Benedictines’ cloistered convent in West Flanders.

The series of eight videos have attracted great interest.

The nuns also have their own Facebook page (link in Flemish).
