Pope spotted popping out for new shoes

It’s not everyday that you bump into the pope buying shoes, but that is exactly what happened to astonished customers in one pharmacy in Rome on Tuesday, when the pontiff picked up a pair near the Holy See.

Venturing out of the Vatican all on his own, Pope Francis caused a sensation on social media when he was caught on smartphones purchasing a pair of orthopedic shoes.

The 80-year-old leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Roman Catholics suffers from chronic sciatica.

During the visit, the pope posed for selfies and blessed an employee’s crucifix.

It is not the only time Francis has made such a mission. Last year, he was spotted at his optician’s near the Spanish Steps in the heart of the Italian capital.
