After weeks of public speculation, Bob Dylan has confirmed he will not pick up his Nobel Prize for Literature in person.

The singer songwriter was named the 2016 laureate of the award “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

The Swedish Academy said he’d sent “a personal letter” outlining pre-existing commitments as the reason for his non-attendance.
