US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has promised a “national plan of revitalisation” as he opened a new hotel in Washington DC.

A small group of protesters turned out as he cut the ribbon at the Trump International.

It’s not the first time Trump has staged an event at one of his properties and, according to an aide, it would remind voters of his business accomplishments, less than two weeks before the big election.

Meanwhile, Democratic rival Hillary Clinton has taken aim at him, calling his new hotel “the same old story” of using undocumented workers and goods made abroad.

She is ahead of Trump in national opinion polls. A double reason for her to celebrate on Wednesday – it also being her 69th birthday.
