Germany soldier on while England falter in latest World Cup qualifiers

Germany wasted little time in stamping their authority in their Group C World Cup qualifier, going two-nil up against Northern Ireland in under 20 minutes. The rest of the match was pretty sterile, though, with no more goals.

Group C sees the Germans on top, with Azerbaijan slipping to second after a goalless draw with the Czech republic.

In Group E Poland just scraped past Armenia, two goals to one, a result that sees them share top spot with Montenegro, who beat the Danes one-nil.

Romania are in third after a goalless draw with Kazakhstan.

England again huffed and puffed against Slovenia, with a goalless first half in Group F
and the second half wasn’t any better, so England lose their 100% record.

Lithuania beat Malta to move into second place, which they share with Slovenia. Scotland lost to Slovakia and are fourth.
