Reykjavik City Council ensured that a stunning display of the Northern Lights was visible to all lucky enough to be in the city on Wednesday, September 28.

After an aurora report predicted a particularly powerful display that evening the council arranged for street lights in the Icelandic capital to be turned off between 10 pm and 11 pm and asked homeowners to follow suit to decrease light pollution.

Their actions resulted in a beautiful, unobstructed display of the Aurora Borealis, which an Icelandic astronomy website filmed in time lapse.
